LAN ports only work when they want to.
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:20:17 PM »

Hey!

So, last week we bought a new router to get wireless internet and possibly better speeds. We originally bought a Belkin - Play Max router, but we had enormous problems with the download speed. It didn't work well at all and there was no documentation. So we went back to return it, and instead of getting another router they suggested that we should try one more time with a new router. So we got a new router (same model) and tried it; same problems! However, this thread is not about the sh*tty Belkin router, it's about the new D-link 825 we bought after returning the second Belkin router!

After plugging it in i immediately noticed there was something weird with the LAN ports as the lamps didn't glow. Well, i think the second and the third one worked normally but the first and last one refused to glow when i plugged the LAN cable in. I ignored it, and plugged in all three cables (we have three computers that use LAN) in the first three ports, and then the lamps started glowing as normally. So, port 1,2 and 3 worked good. And it's been working really GREAT for 2 days now. (great speeds, good wireless range)

Today, when i turned the computer on i saw the internet wasn't working! It says "Network cable unplugged". I have checked the cable several times, and it's plugged in into the computer and the router just fine. I checked the router, only to see that the lamp for my port had stopped glowing! F*CK!, i thought, and tried the last free port (the 4th one) only to see the same results.

So, now i'm here writing this from my laptop connected to the same router through wireless.

I thought i'd give the support forum a try before i return this router as well. So, any ideas on what might be going on here? I'm running Windows 7 on my computer (all our computers except one runs Windows 7, the other one runs Windows XP). I have tried restarting the router. I've also tried uninstalling the network adapter drivers, and then installing them again. No luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
brokenrouter

EDIT:
Alright, so i just tried plugging the cable into my laptop (the one that i had in my computer earlier), and it works on here. So the problem is lying on the computer, not the router. I should've checked that before posting, sorry. You might still be able to give me some hints on what might be wrong, i'd really appreciate it.

Fixed.
