If this is the wrong section to ask this; I'm sorry. The DIR-615 is the make of my D-Link so I assumed this'd be the appropriate place.

I'm trying to connect my Nintendo DS to Wi-Fi, however it only supports a WEP connection. So I've got a few questions:
1) What is the difference between WPA and WEP? I've tried reading up on them but it's either over my head or doesn't actually answer my questions.
2) Will changing from WPA to WEP effect my connection speed or bring about any other negatives?
3) Exactly how to I go about switching from WPA to WEP? I've read that it's relatively simple but any "tutorial" I've tried to follow just confused me.

the Differences between WEP and WPA just how the secure wireless is setup and how wireless devices will connect to the router. WEP is a first generation kinda of connection that has been broken and people have been able to hack into. Thus the reason for using WPA or not WPA2 has they provide better defense against hackers.

For you to switch from WPA to WEP, you need to log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1 and go to the following section; Setup/Wireless Settings/Manual WirelessWireless Security Mode. Change the Security Mode to WEP.

Is it possible to switch back to WPA in the future?
Oh, and on the page where I change to WEP, it has "WEP Key 1 through 4." Am I supposed to setup four separate passwords or just enter one password and use it for all four?

Yes you can change back to WPA or WEP at any time. I would use WEP for short term use then go back to WPA if you have other devices that use WiFi. If you don't then you could leave it on WEP.

Only need to enter in one key I think.

Okay, sweet.
I'll totally just change it to WEP only when I'm using my DS. Thanks again for your help.
Though I'm getting some weird error message saying "Key 1 is wrong, the legal characters are 0~9, A~Z or a~z" when I try saving my settings after entering in WEP Key 1.. And I'm obviously not using any characters other than the ones it's specifying.
