Disconnecting every 30 seconds
« on: April 03, 2011, 08:01:57 AM »

I have a problem in that my router throws tanrums, and every 30 seconds disconnects.  This goes on for about 1/2 hour then stops for a few hours, then starts again.  I looked at the logs and see this message:

Wireless system with MAC address 000000000000 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication

I've seen other posts about this, but it's for different models, and they all had a valid MAC addess.

What can be causing this?  it's driving my crazy!!  I have tried rebooting the Router without success

Attached are screenshots that include the firmware versioin of my router, and the connected systems.

Any and all suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim.

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or does it have a built in router by chance?
How are you connecting to the 628? Wired or Wireless?
What wireless modes are you running? Mixed? Single?
What FW version is currently loaded?
Any cordless phones in the house?

Time Warner Road Runner - Cable

It's a Motorola Modem, no Built in router

Both wireless and Wired. The modem is wired of course, as is my Network Server, and color Laser Printer.  The Printer is a Samsung CLP-315 color Laserjet, and has Built in Wi-Fi, but I don't use it, I use the ethernet connection.  I have not seen any connection problems with the server, but I very rarely use it for anything.  It seems that the only Wireless system affected is this laptop I am using. My Wii, DVD Player and XBox, (all wireless), seem to be unaffected. Not sure about my MAC Powerbook, (Wireless), I have not used it long enough for this to happen, and the other person using a laptop in the another part of the house has said nothing about any problems.

What wireless modes are you running? Mixed? Single?
Mixed

What FW version is currently loaded?
1.11

Any cordless phones in the house?
Yes

I recommend doing this. Turn OFF all Wireless devices to test. Unplug all Cordless phones in the house.

Set WiFi mode to Single mode G, can try with or with out security. Might be easier to try with out first.

Set up the Device that is having issues, and set up a static reserved IP address in the router. Make sure the device is set up for auto obtain IP address, don't set a static IP address here.

Test out the LT that has been giving you problems. Turn on WiFi security, i.e. AES if the device supports that option, if not, use Auto.

It's recommended that you set reserved static IP addresses for ALL devices connected to the router. Ease of trouble shooting and addresses don't change.

I think this was the problem.  It was not set. even though I distinctly remember setting it up a while back. I'm not sure how it got cleared bit I set it up again.

Thanks,
Jim.

Make sure your setting the static reserved IP address in the router and not the device itself. Once this is done and it tests out and will connect, I would save off the routers configuration to file.

Does anyone have access to the routers main menu? Do you have a PW on it and haven't given it out?

This seems to be a similar problem to my "old" problem where at the time my Norton 360 "Internet security" software would "de-authenticate" my wifi signals.  Turned out the 360 firewall had not be told to "trust" my wifi network name (aka SSID) and forced the signal down.   Once I told the software to trust my SSID, all worked. (I have since replace my DIR-628 and dumped Norton.)
