Hi,
I bought my DIR-825 three months ago. The firmware seem to be from 2009,
and the check-for-later-firmware functionality from the web interface tells me that my version
(Current Firmware Version :   2.01EU) is the latest.

I don't believe that the firmware from 2009 is the latest, but have no idea on how to proceed.

My hardware in the web interface say this:
(Hardware Version: B1     Firmware Version: 2.01E

The problem I really have is related to PPTP pass through (I think), but I thought making sure
I have the latest firmware is always a smart move.

So, can the firmware-checker of the web-interface fail, or do I have the latest firmware?

What is your problem that you seem to be experiencing?
It's best to try to troubleshoot the problem first before trying to update FW.

Hi,
The problem is that I can't use VPN. PPTP seems to be failing.
But I don't have any useful logs from this.
I just througt that since so many people seem to have problems with PPTP, it could be related
to a firmware problem.
So the question is if any PPTP related problems has been fixed in the firmware.

Where are you located?
v2.01E is the latest for this EU router.

IF you could explain your Internet setup a bit more, it's possible this could be a different issue.
What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone modem or does it have a built in router?
Are you running the 825 with default settings?
Have you set up static IP addresses for your devices on the router?
What Advanced features have you setup? Any port forwarding rules or virtual server rules?
How are you connecting to the router? Wired or wireless?
If wireless, what modes are you using? Setup Single mode G or Mixed G and N?

I'm located in sweden, so this means I already have the latest firmare.

I have ethernet to the apartment, some kind of house-shared solution.
I`m given a static IP address, and there is no dial-up required.

No dialup, ethernet to the home.

Almost. I started digging around to make this VPN work, but it still doesn't.

In the home network, I have DHCP.

I had some before that I thought was needed for PPTP/GRE, port 1723 and GRE protocol number 47.
But, in a another post, I read that this should not be necessary if all ALG settings were set in the
firewall settings (which they are).

IT's possible that this Ethernet internet service and having this additional router on line could be an issue. Theres a possibility that there is another router up the line from where your at and having 2 routers on the line can cause connection issues with different services. Some ISPs here in the U.S. have modems that have built in routers. Adding a 2nd router causes NAT to fail and thus services fail to connect because the traffic is being routed and trying to be translated over 2 routers and most likely the router that was added can't translate thru the 1st router. Usually this is resolved by bridging the modem or putting the 2nd router into the modems DMZ.

However not sure in your case as you don't seem to have a ISP modem. I would contact your ISP provider and talk to them about connecting up an additional router in your home and see if they can offer you some help in getting network compatibility setup, if possible so that the router can service you VPN.
Let us know what you find out.
