Okay, after having read numerous posts with no success, I found something that works for my new dir-628 with a house full of macbooks.

I downloaded the latest firmware as of July 2009 from this link:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir628/Firmware/dir628_fw_122NA.zip

After installing that, I then used the virtual link software and was able to connect with my printer and share it amongst the other computers.  You'll have to tweak with the settings a little bit, so that the computers will automatically connect only when printing (then it will automatically disconnect as well), and leave it available for others in the house.

This is a lot more work than what I was used to with years of using an Apple Airport Extreme, but then again, I guess I got what I paid right?

I'm having the same problem as arkaska. SX Virtual Link returns the following error:

"No device servers were found on the network.
Make sure your device servers are set properly."

Has anyone found a way around this problem? I'm using a DIR-625 (C2, v3.08). I understand that Shareport doesn't yet work with the 625, but I was under the impression that the Silex utility would. But I simply can't get it to work. Any ideas?

(Works fine on the PC, btw...)

I found that I could get around the non-detection issue by enabling my dir655's IP as a broadcast address. Magically, the attached Hard drive was found. Now if I could only get it recognized outside of SX Virtual Link and/or Shareport on more than an intermittent basis.

Hey evolver, I also have a dir655. Where did you find the IP that you put as the broadcast address? I've got a printer hooked up to my router and i'm having trouble connecting to it through shareport.

I'm experiencing the "No device servers were found on the network..." error as well on my new DIR-825, running OS X 10.6.2.
I've tried d-links shareport 3.0 beta, as well as two versions of the silex software (3.10 and 3.30).

The newer versions seem to run coinstall with no problem but fail to detect any attached usb devices. The firewall is off and I'm on the same subnet as the router. It doesn't make any difference wether I connect via WLAN (2.4 or 5 ghz) or Ethernet. I've also tried 2 different hard drives, a digital camera and a printer so compatibility shouldn't be an issue either. The usb light on the router lights up allright as well. Sadly my pc broke down, so i must wait until next week to check whether that'll work.

Has anyone found a workaround for this detection problem?

I would try using SharePort 3.0R1. Worked for me...
If anyone is still having problems, someone may be able to help if you can provide more detail about how to reproduce.

Mac OS version, D-Link product model and firmware version, SharePort version, USB Device model and driver version, network environment, steps to reproduce issue, etc.

No luck here with SX Virtual Link. Worked the first time I installed it but the next day it would not work. I restarted the printer and rebooted the router. It sees the printer but when I connect I get the error Connection to XXX USB Printer failed. The SX Virtual Link app window says "You are connected", but it will not print.
Console says:
SX Virtual Link[230]   *** WARNING: Method selectedRowEnumerator in class DeviceListView is deprecated. It will be removed in a future release and should no longer be used.

Macintosh 10.6.4
Silex SX Virtual Link Version 3.6.0 SXUPTP Driver 1.5.2
The printer driver is installed on this computer

I have the D-Link DIR-685 and neither the Shareport or Silex versions of the software will work for my old HP printer.  Just the same status as most here "No device servers were found on the network".

I had the same problem with v3.0 of Shareport utility on my winxp box so rolled it back to 1.17 where it works as expected.  Silly thing is that it still works perfectly from my xp host inside fusion running on SL.

Is there a v1.17 of Shareport or the Silex version for the Mac?  I'd like to give that a try but can only find Shareport v1.10 which doesn't seem to have SL support.

I have DIR-625 and I installed version 3.3.0 from Silex but I still have problem to connect any device (epson printer R260 or just a usb flash drive). the DLINK Shareport utility gave me the same result. I am using Mac OS X 10.6.7 .

Error message when I try to manually connect: Connection to EPSON USB2.0 Printer (Hi-speed) failed

 ??? ??? ???

I DLINK actually reading the forum and try to provide support to customers?
