DFL-210, Multiple LAN and DHCP
« on: April 14, 2011, 07:21:32 AM »

Hi all!

Im on my way buying a DFL-210 to help a friends small company out.

They are in need of physical separation of the LAN.
One net as a development LAN (lets say 10.0.0.0/24), and another totally separate "regular work" LAN (192.168.10.0/24). No cross communication is to be allowed.
After searching through the posts here I've figured that there is no problem setting this up on the DFL-210, but since both nets are in need of DHCP, will the 210 be able to hand out addresses on both LANs?

Many many thanks in advance! :)

Well.

There are a few ways to acomplish this.

-VLANs

-Using two network interfaces (DMZ and LAN), setting up DHCP servers on both of them

If you're planning in using the same switches, you need it to support vlans, or at least some sort of port grouping/isolation.(If you plan to have DHCP on both networks)

Thanks for your reply.

I forgot to mention that I was thinking of using two of the LAN ports according to this thread; http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=12202.0 and was pondering on what the capabilities were on the built in DHCP-server.

I'm aware of the VLAN-way, but I was asked to research other options due to their switches not being able to handle VLAN as is. That in combination on presenting a solution that's both inexpensive and "easy".

Thanks for the tip on making DMZ into LAN2, that may actually be the easiest way.

I'm very grateful for the reply, thanks again!

Other solution is using IP alias to set multiple networks on same interface.
