I have a problem with the dir-855 and my FNS-5000b nas. Internet and wireless all work fine till i plug the nas in then the internet goes offline and the wired connection to the nas connects and disconnects continually.

If i plug the nas in through a switch it works fine but i would rather connect it directly.

Anyone any ideas on  how to solve this problem?

Are you using static IP address on the NAS or the router for the NAS?
Are you using Static IP addess for all the devices you use?

I would recommend connecting the NAS to the swtich if your PCs are connected to the same switch. Less data to route if on the switch and a bit faster xfer rates.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I am using static ip for both the router, the nas and all wireless devices on the network. The only thing going through the switch at the moment is the nas, I use the router mainly for wireless connections for laptops and a wired connection for my desktop. Just wanted to remove the switch as i wanted the gigabit ethernet to function and the switch is not gigabit capable. Tried a crossover cable too and this did not solve the problem.
I can get a good throuput on the dir-855 wirelessly with the nas connected directly and the internet disconnected.

Are you setting up a static IP adderss for the NAS on the router and on the NAS? You only need to set up a static IP address for the NAS on the router which is preferred. Ensure the NAS is set up to auto obtain an IP address only.
Check the connection setting on the NAS, try setting it to Auto or Manual GB. Should work.

Hi, Tried your suggestion but still disconnecting and reconnecting. Its very frustrating lol. Probably end up getting a gigabit switch.

Ya, thats really odd, shouldn't do that. And you've tried different cables to test? Been know that some cables can cause issues. Ya, I've got a GB switch coming off mine. I connect up everything there including the PCs. The xfer times should be good between PCs and NAS using the Switch. Keep us posted.
