DSL-526B
« on: May 12, 2011, 04:09:35 AM »

Hello,

I am using the router DIR-825 together with a modem-router DSL-526B. After reading many posts, I understand that I have to bridge the DSL-526B and use the more complete DIR-825 under PPOE to connect to Internet. However, when bridging the DSL-526B, the settings are showing after setup that the firewall and NAT are enabled whereas, when looking at the quick bridging setup in the manual, it sems that they should be disabled. My questions are therefore:

In bridging mode, can the firewall and NAT remain enabled, what can possibly create a conflict with those of the DIR-825 or create complication ?
If yes, how to disable them, as no option for doing it in the briging quick set up ?

Thanks for your help

One the DSL modem is bridge is should automatically turn those off, however if they don't then It would be recommended to turn them off and having 2 firewalls and NATs on the same network can cause connection issues with certain applications and game consoles.

You'd have to unbridge the DSL modem, turn off the NAT and firewall options, then re-bridge the modem.
Realistically, if you bridge the modem, it should by pass the NAT and firewall options already. I would call up DLink and ask.

Thanks a lot. But I can only find the NAT and firewall option when doing PPOE, PPOA or MER quick setup. I can unbridge, then diable NAT and firewall using one of these 3 options. But disabling through PPOOE, then when re-briging which is what I want in the end, they are re-enabled ???
