DIR-615 Wireless Issue
« on: April 28, 2011, 02:02:51 PM »

hello!
about 16 months ago I purchased the dir 655, and for the past 9 moths we have been having an annoying issue with the wireless. once i have connected a few wireless devices (we have about 10), the router stops assigning a standard ip (192.168.0.x) and the devices end up with odd ip addresses (169.254.x.x). when this happens, those devices are unable to access the internet or any network resources, however the wired devices work fine.
Cable stand alone modem
Dir-615 revision c1
firmware 3.11 (updated a few days ago)

The 169 means that the device could not get a valid working IP address so it self assigned an address.
That many devices, I would set up Static Reserved IP addresses on the router itself that way you ensure you get the same IP address all the time and each device has an address. Ease of management and troubleshooting too.

Couple questions:
1. Is it around 10, or exactly 10 devices? Does that include wired?
2. How do you get the devices back online? What is your process?
3. When you loose it on one wireless, do you loose it on all at the same time?

Things to try:
1. Check your DHCP IP Address Range(Setup>Network Settings), it should be 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199. Also, if you have static IP's set, make sure they fall within this range.

2. What is Subnet Mask set to(Setup>Network Settings)? Should be 255.255.255.0. Unless your range is larger then a 100.

3. Do you have any Mac filtering turned on? (Advanced>Network Filter). If so, turn it off.

1. 14 devices on wireless, 8 on wired, and two ethernet switches i think that's all.
2. to get them back online, i reboot the router
3. no i do not, on any devices that try to renew their ip or connect to the wireless

ip address range is set 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
no mac filtering is turned on
