Author Topic: Serious issue with latest firmware (1.21); router grinds to a halt every 3 days  (Read 6318 times)

Alright. I've been doing some research, and to make a long story short, here's a summary.
  • This has been happening on firmwares past 1.20
  • The 1.2 firmware has been in the wild for at least two years - why isn't this fixed yet?

Here's the problem: Every 2 or 3 days, the router grinds to a halt. I mean an absolute halt. Web pages time out. Even the router's 192.168.0.1 config page simply does not load. This has been happening consistently and repeatedly since I bought the device. It is running the latest firmware. Something is bogging down the router every 3 days. My guess would be some kind of memory leak. There's a starting point for the firmware authors, because there is a serious problem with the latest firmware.

A power cycle to the router lets it run for another few days before things gradually (over the course of 2-4 minutes slow down) just stop loading. Please fix this.

See these other threads for more information. This is an established problem, and this is not okay. I bought this router under the assumption that it would be great for gaming, but as it stands, I don't know whether I can trust another DLink product.

I don't want to be told to upload my configuration. I am running the latest firmware [I thought. Guess I'm not, even though the router is reporting 1.21NA as the latest. Weird.]. I have done several hard resets, several factory resets, several 30/30/30 cycles, reset my modem, checked with my ISP to make sure my connection is solid. I want to know when the next version of the firmware is coming out, which will fix this issue, and if a new firmware is not planned, I want to know, so I can be sure to avoid DLink in the future. It's been two years since the latest firmware release, and my hopes aren't high.

The router has been working flawless for many, for some it is not. In your case you most likely have a faulty unit, have you restarted the configuration from scratch? If it still occurs just call D link and get a replacement unit.

Hmm a well written post, but I think you are mistaken about the purpose of this forum. If this is a simple bug post then this thread is a good place for it, but other then that, don't expect anyone from D-link to hear your words. This place is mostly ran by users, with a few exceptions.

As for a memory leak, I have not experianced anything like that, and I place this router under heavy load for long periods. Also, in some of the very posts you quoted, there were people saying they were having no problems at all. Its human nature to assume things which seem related are related, but usually in world of troubleshooting, the truth is more complicated. Also, to my knowledge there is no future firmware coming out. I think they are working on other routers. Which version are you using? Latest is 1.22.

Well actally need a bit more information that might help you out...
What is your ISP service? Cable or DSL?
What is your ISP modem? Stand alone or built in router?
What Hardware version is the router?
What exact Firmware version is currently loaded? 1.2 is not a valid version. Please give us specific details.
How is the router setup?
How are you connecting? Wired or Wireless?

Yes there was some that saw issues with v1.21 FW. That was fixed with 1.22.
Have you reviewed the Gamefule sticky?

Hmm... My current firmware version is 1.21NA,  2009/07/09, and the "check for latest version" button in the router config is reporting that as the latest. Anywhere where I can manually download the latest version?

Hello, Disgruntled
