D-View Cam v.3.1.1 Missing or Corrupted Files
« on: November 17, 2010, 08:53:43 AM »

I just purchased two DCS-930L cameras.  They are both installed and running fine over wireless.  I can view them via a web browser, however, I cannot get D-ViewCam to work.  I installed the latest version (3.1.1).  As soon as I launch the Main Console it crashes and I get the "Missing or Corrupted Files error code 268435457".  I saw the other post in terms of change the display settings on my PC to 1280X768, however, that does not work.  I also have User Account Control (UAC) turned off.  Anyone else seen this problem ?  Appreciate any help.  Here is what I'm running:

(2) DCS-930L cameras
Windows Vista 32-bit
DIR-655 Router
Wireless Setup
NVIDIA GEForce 8400 Card

Problem solved on my own.  D-Link help desk was no help.  Their solution was to just install on another PC which was not an option.

Somehow the install directly from the CD screwed something up so D-ViewCam Main Console wouldn't load.  The install worked with mydlink.com fine, however, D-ViewCam would produce this error message.  When I tried to uninstall the software and re-install, I would get the same message.  Here is what I did to fix the problem:

- removed mydlink account and cameras
- hard reset the DCS-930L cameras
- Uninstalled D-ViewCam software from Vista
- Rolled back Vista System Settings to previous date to reset Vista registry
- Connected DCS-930L cameras directed to DIR-655 router (wired)
- Accessed setup for each camera, configured camera and wireless settings, confirmed cameras running
- Installed D-ViewCam software.  Main Console now runs and I can view cameras

Key for me was not running the install program from the CD and setting up mydlink.com.  Hope this helps anyone else that runs into the same issue.

Thanks for finding a solution yourself on the problem you found. I have not used mydlink, so I cannot speak from experience. I just used to original V2 DViewCam originally and just downloaded and installed from dlink.com's support site. Except for the 64-bit and highres monitor combo (in V3.00 and V3.01) I have not found any real showstopper, and especially not one like you experienced.
I still think it is odd to have to turn off UAC as the Windows "Virtualstore" method should take care of any writing to "illegal read-only" areas. V3.11 is even more adamant that UAC needs to be turned off, but luckily there are work-arounds on that...

Das rubbernecken sightseeren musten keepen das cotten-pickenen hands in das pockets - relaxen und watchen das blinkenlights."

Thanks for posting this.
I got the same error and found the info useful.

However, I only rolled back the windows vista config.
Before re-installing, I turned off user authentication.

It would be good if d-link support could tell exactly what to delete in the registry to do the same trick.

D-View Cam v.3.1.1 "Recovery procedure started"
« Reply #4 on: July 10, 2011, 12:50:56 PM »

I have a junky Acer Aspire one 32-bit, with which I can use the D-Link 3.1.1 D-View Cam software perfectly.  I also have a HP G62 Notebook PC, 64-bit operating system.  When I open the Main Console on the HP Notebook, it opens up for half a second and then crashes.  It started doing this about a month ago.  Both notebooks are running WIN 7 Ultimate. I can’t remember when, but I installed this operating system somewhere around the same time as the error started.  Oddly, it works well with the Acer.  The error message says:

“System encountered a problem
Recovery procedure is started
MainConsole would restart in 12 seconds
Press Cancel to stop MainConsole immediately”

It runs this process over and over again.  There’s an option to restart and press ok, which I’ve tried.  And I’ve tried letting it go through the cycle for a long time.  The console doesn’t stay open long enough for me to even install the 4th camera.

I have uninstalled and downloaded the software on the HP a few times with the same result.  So I can’t view the cameras except through a browser.  It’s really frustrating, and I don’t bother with D-View technical representatives any longer.

Is it the 64-bit system that’s the problem??  My four cameras are DCS-920 if that matters, and I’m using a Linksys Wireless-N Home Router WRT120N.  Has anybody run into this problem with that specific error message?  I also changed the display settings on my HP to 1280X768, and that didn’t make any difference.  The User Account Control setting is off.  I turned off the anti-virus protection as a test and that didn’t work.

I have the same problem like lag.

Problem description:
1- After install on Windows 7 Ultimate, can not open Main Console.  I used the CD that comes with camera DCS-930L
2- Error message says:  "Some files are missing or corrupted. Please re-install the system to solve this problem.(Error code: 268435457)
3- I unistalled and reinstalled several times with the same result.
4- Tech support asked me to download a new version.  I downloaded it, installed it, but when I run the Main Console, I still receive the same error.

I also installed the software in another PC, with Windows 7 Ultimate, and it works fine.

What does this error code means (268435457)?
Why it works on some PC's and won't in other computers?

My best guess is that the installer is examining the hardware and OS configuration of your PC, which may result in slightly different software components installed from one PC to the next, despite having the same OS. This difference would explain the installation success on one PC and failure on another. The failed installations most likely either have a corrupt/missing component or some conflict caught during the setup.

I agree with you JavaLawyer.  The question is:  how can I find out the cause of the conflict?
