Is there any sort of "hardening-guide" re: preventing people from hacking the DIR-825?  I've done the obvious (to me) things, but I'm wondering what the risk is.

I'm also interested in how good the DIR-825 is, security-wise, compared with Linksys equivalent routers.

Most DIR routers all use the very same "master access" password.  This password allows "us" to configure the router settings such access Internal access a WiFi security. 

The DIR-825 has "limited" hardening possibilties.  You can:

- Change access password
- Setup and maintenance the Wireless (WiFi) access security.  Use WPA2-AES as the WiFi Passphrase "settings" in the Wireless Security

- Enter a list of network adapters (PCs and other devices) MAC IDs that are allowed to access your router (*)
- Hide the wireless network name (SSID) (*)

(*) -- These settings do not help with security access but can "help?"

If you want an hardened router, you will need to look at the more advanced "true" firewall devices.

Most routers are not totally protected however if the user(s) take action as stated by the previous poster, most and generally routers are safe and protected. Thats not to say if someone wants in, they might try to get in. However, how many house hold routers and networks are being hacked. Ya there are probably some looking to gain free WiFi access. Most hacking is ideally done on more important networks. Home routers and networks are really a point of interest to hackers IMO. They go after places like Sony.
