Weird P2P problem
« on: November 14, 2011, 06:26:32 AM »

Hello

I am having a really frustrating problem with my DNS-325 and P2P. Something seems to be wrong with the paths. I have reset the NAS and run the setup wizard again and reformatted the drives.

Under my computer i see two volumes; Volume_1 (W:) and Volume_2 (Z:).

Now if i open Volume_1 i don't see any folders inside.

Now when i click on the Network icon on the left i see the following

- lp
- p2p (\\Dns-325\p2p)
- Volume_1 (\\DNS-325\Volume_1)
- Volume_2 (\\DNS-325\Volume_2)

Under Network Shares there are the following:

- P2P - Volume_1/P2P
- Volume_1 - Volume_1
- Volume_2 - Volume_2

I tried deleting the P2P but i cant and also nothing happens when i press on "Reset Network Shares".

Also under P2P Downloads settings, the Torrent save path is set as Volume_1.

If i remember correctly from my first setup, the folder P2P was under Volume_1 and not a separate network share. I just want to put the P2P folder back under Volume_1.

Also when i try to cut/paste a file from p2p share to volume_1 share it takes forever to copy where if it was on Volume_1 it would be instant.

I am running firmware 1.02

Thank you in advance.

PS: I asked the same in DNS-325 but had no responses, and JavaLawyer told me that maybe i can find a solution from you guys here.

D-Link's technical support number is located in this sticky post: DNS-320 - Resources.

D-Link is fairly responsive to in warranty technical support issues. Please post your results/experience after you call.  :)

one thing that came to my mind now is that i am running firmware 1.02. Maybe its possible the new firmware made this problem? How can i revert back to a previous stable firmware for my DNS-325?

noone is using P2P?

i just want to know how your folder area. Please its a simple question.

Mine are like below

- p2p (\\Dns-325\p2p)
- Volume_1 (\\DNS-325\Volume_1)
- Volume_2 (\\DNS-325\Volume_2)

shouldnt the P2P exist under volume_1?

It is displaying correctly. The P2P data will be saved on the selected Volume in the P2P settings but it will be displayed as you are seeing.

First off, thanks for the response to you and JavaLawyer

Ok so the paths are fine right?

Can you please explain me why it takes so long to copy files from P2P to Volume_1? I am using a wireless connection and i get a 2-3MB transfer rate. whereas before when the P2P folder was under Volume_1 it was instant.  I dont understand also why it is defined as Volume_1/P2P under Network shares?

Is it possible to move P2P folder back under Volume_1? Is this something done in firmware 1.02?

The paths are fine.

It seems that when you move the file from P2P to Volume_1 it is actually transferring the date from the DNS-320, to your computer and back to the DNS-320 and this is being done over your wireless network which is why it is taking so long to move. This may be caused due to the change in the share path since it is no longer seeing it under Volume_1 but its own share. Before it was able to just change the files location data, so basically just saying it is now in this other folder and not re-writing the entire file.

Unfortunately there is no option to specify the P2P folder location, just the volume that it will be using to store the data.
