Hi,

I've owned my DNS-323 for over a year now.  The first 3 month it ran flawlessly, but something happened and my bit torrent has not worked since.  Also, I cannot delete the bit torrent file on the drive when I'm in my os (window 7 64bit).  Not running raid.  I can store data on both drives without issue so I never bother with it again. 

Now, I'm thinking about updating the firmware, but am worried about losing all my data on both drives.  Will I have an issue with data lose or unable to read drive or auto formate the drive after an firmware update (I don't want to lose 1t worth of photos, movies, and mp3's)?  Will it fix the bit torrent issue?

Is the new firmware worth the update?  Will it enable me to use the usb port for another drive without hacking it?

I'm a newbe who does not know much about networking and bought this as it was pretty easy to set up.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

PS, the search is terrible as it pulls alot of other model numbers and not really able to find what I'm looking for.

Learn to use the search - it only does what you tell it - and you can tell it which forum to search in - and this topic has been discussed pretty thoroughly already.

1 - your data is at risk whether you update the firmware or not.
2 - none of the firmware released either causes or forces a reformat of the disks
3 - backup your data before updating the firmware.
4 - none of the firmware available allows additional storage through the USB port.
