Map both drives at once
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:56:51 AM »

I have installed a second 2Tb drive in my NAS DNS323 Dlink box. Non raid settings. Now it seems I can only map one drive at a time. Assume that the problem is only one address.  Would really like to see both separate drives in Windows. Does anyone know how to do this.  Using Win 7 64 bit.  Belkin N1 vision.  DNS323 with 2 Tb drives. O yes.  Discovered I had to turn on DNS323 first, N1 Vision router  second and PC last or I could not map any drive.

You can map both drives at the same time - in fact you can map multiple folders on each drive to multiple drive letters - as many folders as you have unused "drive letters" for.

This is purely a Windows function - in Windows 7 ...

1 - open libraries
2 - right click "Network"
3 - select "Map network drive" from the resulting menu
4 - select an unused drive letter
5 - click Browse
6 - navigate to the DNS-323 and expand it
7 - select the volume (Volume_1 or Volume_2)
8 - you can either click OK at this point which will map the volume or you can navigate down to a folder.

It's pretty much the same in any version of Windows, except that Microsoft has changed the names of certain things - libraries was once called explorer, network was once my network places.

I ran into this problem when I added a second drive as well.

I don't really have a solution other than that I forgot to run the Dlink easy search utility as administrator the second time around.

Run as admin in Win7 and it mapped no problem.

The ESU is not required to map drives, it's provided by DLink to make the task of locating & configuring the DNS-323 easier.

I've never bothered with the DLink cd and/or ESU personally.

Mapping multiple drives is simple enough in WinXP. I have numerous shares and have each mounted to a different drive letter for easy management.

Running OS/2 here make the CD only useful for the reading the manual.

Like dosborne, I have no problems mounting shares to a drive letter - the shares are spread over three NAS.
