I have firmware v1.09 and am running Win7 x64 with the DNS and PC connected through a Gigabit hub, and whenever I try copy an ISO file that's 5.8GB, it runs great at 15-20MB/s for a bit, but when the file has 4.71GB left, every time without fail, the link to the DNS crashes and won't respond.  It's not a time based crash, even if it's only going at 5MB/s because of other copies, it will always crash at 4.71GB remaining, so ~1.1GB into the file. 

Obviously the copy fails as well and Windows reports that the connection was lost.  What's odd is that this happens wherever on the drives that ISO is located, and it happens regardless of whatever files I might be copying in parallel.  I can copy files bigger, smaller, more files, whatever perfectly fine, but this one ISO is seemingly broken.  It also happens if I try to edit the ISO, although I can open and view all the files fine and the crash isn't time based, so I think part of the file might be somehow corrupted

Is there any way to diagnose/fix this or is it stuck there?  I have 2x 1.5TB Seagate Barracude drives run in RAID0, I'm really hoping that's not an issue, but might be.  Thanks a lot in advanced for any assistance, and besides this, it's an awesome little black box.

Have you tried copying from a different PC? Are there any system errors logged on your PC? Can you try connecting direct to the DNS323 (no hub)? Are you using the cable that came with the DNS323 (and can you try a different cable)? Does the hub show the DNS323 link to be up still after the 'crash'?

Nope

Tried that, but Windows didn't recognize it being there for some reason.  Although I didn't try running that EasySearch thingy, will test that.

Tried maybe three different cables, no luck.

Yes, the power light stays solid, the network light flashes like crazy as usual, and the only difference in the drive lights is that when it nears the 4.71GB mark, one of the drives turns solid while the other flashes (instead of both flashing).  Other than that, it looks normal, Windows pops up saying it failed, and after about 15 seconds I can browse the folders again. 

I did try running the disk check thing through the Config menu, and it fails at around 20-25% (Keep looking away when it actually does) but doesn't give me a log or anything.  One thing I want to try is SpinRite or similar software.  Can I use that through the device, or do I have to hook the drives up to my PC through SATA and do it that way?

If the copy crashes at the same point every time I would suspect something peculiar about the file you're copying.

And if I might be permitted - storing data on a RAID0 array is a bad idea, RAID0 sacrifices reliability for speed, and on a network storage device such as this, there is no speed advantage, so you're giving up reliability and gaining nothing in return.

Yeah, that was something I was debating setting it up, but some other websites said they noticed pretty strong speed increases going to RAID0 on this box.  I successfully deleted the file, found out I had a slightly older backup on one of my machines, so I guess that's all good. 
If I wanted to get the full 3TB I have, would any RAID be best, or should I just format them as one continuous drive (I'd rather not deal with 2 separate drives, it bugs me)?

I'd be interested to see how those sites tested, because in my experience, there is NO performance boost whatsoever running RAID0 on a DNS-323.

From my point of view the only disk formats worth using are standard (separate) volumes and RAID1 - with both JBOD & RAID0, loss of either disk will render your data inaccessible, which I consider unacceptable.

Whether you use standard volumes or RAID1 will depend on your needs - RAID1 is intended to improve availability, not as a back up as many people seem to think.

I wish I could link the sites, but my history doesn't go back that far .  Once I get my new rig up and running so I actually have more than 100GB of free space elsewhere in the house, I'll probably run SpinRite and whatnot, then format into the standard setup.
