Hi.

I have just bought a DNS-320 and have some problems when i want to set folder permissions.
When i just have Volume-1 read/write for all users then everything works.
But when i change so just selected users/groups can read/write on Volume-1 then i can only create folders and add files just under Volume-1 (Volume-1/TestFolder) but then under the TestFolder i don't have right permissions.

I have tried to make a factory reset.
I have tested with MacOS and windows xp. It is same problems.

Dose any one know what i can do to get this fixed?
Is there any new firmwares?
Here i have find that there is a Firmware 2.0b6 on the french dlink ftp.

Now i have update the firmware to 2.0b6 from ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns/DNS-320/firmware/
And it works. But i have the same problem.
When i have a user that only have permission to Read/Write on the TestFolder i can't create folders in that folder in Finder.

What can i do?

I still have this problem.
Now i have the problem to copy a folder that contains files and folder.
I can only copy the main folder but not the content.

Any one have a solution?

The same copying problem here on Mac OSX 10.6.4 and 10.5.

The workaround I've found is to make a folder a TimeMachine share, and copy your Mac files to that folder/share. Within that folder you can copy complex folder structures from Mac OSX.

1. First make a share, if you haven't got one:
Management > Account Management > Network Shares > New

2. Then make it a TimeMachine share:
Applications > Local Backups > Time Machine > Time Machine Settings > New

It seems the DNS-320 somehow makes TimeMachine shares more compatible for Macs. Don't bother that you don't want to use TimeMachine on your Mac for backup, it's not necessary to make this solution work.


I also experience user/groups permission problems, although different ones that yours. If I give Read only permission to a user, it can still write that share.

Hey,

Try resetting the NAS to its default settings, not the full erase option (dont want to be wiping actual data).

Seemed to help me as grouping/users is a bit hit and miss.

Thanks, it seems to have fixed that problem.

Any ideas about this one, It doesn't seem to matter how the DNS-320 is formatted as I usually end up with 2 or 3 different icons under the shared area of the sidebar. One of the icons looks like it has a mac desktop background and the other looks more like a windows machine? Here's what they say:

music - windows looking with dark blue color
Music-1 mac looking with lighter blue color
Music-1_AFP_Volume_1

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
