I've gotta say im a little miffed.  I purchase this from a local retailer siding with Dlink over my tried tested and true Linksys so after the whole thing I install play around for a few hours only to come to the obvious conclusion that the Beta Vista drivers are iffy to say the least and if you just paid the big bucks and got yourself the Vista Ultimate Box (only version of Vista being shipped with X64 in box) or my previous operating system Windows Xp Pro X64 but this wireless card has neither supported.  Is Dlink planning on releasing a X64 Driver for Windows X64 Pro (as trying to install the 32 bit one does nothing for you) or I mean the Vista 64 driver would even kinda take some of the bitter taste out of my mouth.  Why release a new product being top of the line without 64Bit support?.  I've got to say Dlink is getting a finger wag from me until this issue is resolved.  If Anyone has come across similar issues or found work arounds for either Vista Ultimate X64 or Xp Professional X64 please let me know.  Untill then I'll be stuck using the cheesy DWL G122 which wiorjks good but sits external which is no good

Does Windows find drivers for the card by its self from Windows Update?

Why don't you use Ubuntu64 with the NDISwrapper.  then if You MUST have windoz64, run a VM.   That will give you 64 bit processing with ANY D-link card.

what do u mean run a vm? because i have a 64bit windows and i am having no luck with this...

Ignore Xiuhte...... on this one. He went a little wild with the suggestion. The question from God the Hamster the in the right direction. Microsoft should be supplying the correct drivers via their update.

Back to the original question...Will there be drivers available from D-Link to run Win XP Pro X64?? Microsoft does not support the DWA-552. I expect better from a worldwide supplier of parts. The box makes it seem like it will run on X64 as it says "Designed for Windows XP"

We intend to only supply Microsoft approved drivers for our products. This is why you may have seen BETA listed next to so many drivers. When Microsoft blesses drivers with the equivalent of WHQL for the newer OSes, we will post the files or include them on the CD shipped with the product.

Unfortunately the link I posted earlier regarding Microsoft /D-Link "Vista Compatible" list is related to the hardware not the drivers.

You could run Cygwin and ndiswrapper on your Vista64 box and install the 32bit drivers

cygwhat? huh? How about releasing a non-microsoft supported "Beta" driver with a huge red "use at your own risk" flashing label on it? I'd rather have a slightly faulty "beta" driver, than have a $100 placeholder for my PCI slot... not to mention that my $2500 system is now internet incapable after upgrading from windows xp to windows xp x64.

Xiuhtecuhtli stop going over people's heads. Your creativity is nice but you are messaging it to people who don't understand. Before you flame me, I agree that your solutions work, but you need to take it down a notch.

To get the update driver you would obviouly need to have a  working network interface, a connection to the internet, and may be a few other things. The point it that some how you need to get the windows update to try to see if the most currect package of your OS has the drivers you need to support this product in your OS. You will not find the drivers on the CD that shipped with your product as either the driver was not released/approved for CD, or the OS did not exist at the time (or with enough time) to make the driver on a CD happen.

All this aside it still may not work or may not work for you. At what point you will be posting additional information to the boards.

I for one have asked the 64-bit Vista support should be added to at least the higher priced N cards. In talking to my Microsoft collegues they suggest it will be a relavant OS to the masses where 64-bit  XP was not.

So from all this garble the three things I think im understanding is
1. Vista *X64* should soon have drivers available but not likely to see drivers on XP X64 as XP runs applications faster then vista and IMO more stable.
2. The guys with the big heads crunching numbers don't care that your top end product is being released with drivers to support antiquated systems and no steps in place to keep with current.
3. Dlink should perhaps invest some of the time and money that nots going into driver development to hire some constructive people to make a new Dlink product box...much smaller image and very little writting as to how fast the product goes (if you can even get it started) and a big ol image containing the results of just what your computer is going to need/better not have in order to make this product work.
4. (I lied about the whole three points) I think I can safely say that I will not be supporting Dlink for my future netowkring purchases and at that giddy up might as well join the cisco monopoly.
