Using the Print Server with Ubuntu
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:49:07 AM »

Hello,

I am trying to use the DNS 320 with Ubuntu.  Does anyone know how to use it with Ubuntu 10.04?

It works OK with with Windows Xp.

I am a newbie so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tks

Go system>administration>printing then select add printer, choose windows printer via SAMBA and follow the steps from there.

Then you have to hope there is a Linux driver built in to Ubuntu for your printer.

Tks for that.  When I try and browse for the print I can see the Dlink but when I select it just does nothing.
Do I need to install the driver on the linux client pc?

Yes you need the driver on the PC

What is the make and model of your printer ? I will check my installation (Linux Mint 10) to see if the driver is included

When you say you see only Dlink do you mean the DNS 320 do you not see a printer call " lp " ?

Hello sorry for the delay in responding.

When I attempt to setup a network printer I can see within the 'SMB browser' my 'workgroup share' with a comment for the dlink.  But nothing about lp.  When I try to connect within the SMB browser nothing happens.

The printer is a Epson Stylus CX5400 and works fine under XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I finally got it to work!

When I tried to find the printer under its IP address it found it then I just added the driver, then hey presto it works.

Thanks for your help.
