DNS 320 and WD Live Plus
« on: June 21, 2011, 05:35:37 AM »

I am using this for WD Live Plus as a Media Server. It plays all videos nicely, but it take 8-10 seconds to start playing each file. I see this delay when I play MTS file (AVCHD format recorded by Sony Camcorder). Anybody as seen this issue or now how yo fix this? Everything is connected theu Cat6 Cable with a Gigabit port supported router. Playing the same file on PC is instatnt.

Have you tried playing the same file via a usd stick. I would imagine the WD software needs time to decode, computer would be alot faster as its got alot more grunt.

Yes. Thru USB it plays much faster - it does take 2-3 seconds to start thru USB, but then it takes 10 sec to start thru NAS - media shares.
I tried connecting thru Network share, but then it does not show any files - may be I need to share the drive - I dont know how to do that. I am able to map the NAS drive on my PC so that means it is shared. How to enable this on WD Live plus?

Hello,

First, excuse my bad English (my WD use Spanish language).... I have 2 DNS-320 and 2 WD TV LIVE PLUS, one with UPnP enable and NFS service disable, and the other viceversa (UPnP disable, NFS service enable).  Connecting with my WD through multimedia servers (UPnP service) the file need to start 4-5 seconds approx. (I use .mkv files) for the first file, the next is more quick.

Using NFS service (Shared files on WD) need a bit less of time for load than UPnP... but on LAN the WD need  load onto memory the requested file (I have tested sharing files from WD#1 to WD#2 and need time for playing the file).

The time delay for me is normal... I have a friend with a QNAP 4 bays and have approx. the same delay...

For shared folder on NAS I go to Management --> Account Mgmt --> Network Shares --> New --> pick on Volume_1 for see the tree folders and select the folder for shared, and continues with the instructions..

Good luck

I was able to connect this from WD Live plus as Network share. This plays MTS file few sec faster, as compared to Media Shares. Anyway, I still have on issue. I set up the folder access for all acounts in Read/Write mode. On WD Live Plus, if I set this up as automatic login, this does not connect. If I take the automatic connection off, it will popup with "annonymus" account. If do OK, it connects to DNS320 and woks ok. The problem here is, I have to make few clicks every time to connect. This would have been perfect, if I could use the automatic login for connecting as Network Shares. Any body has any idea? I want to use the Network sare option, since this is faster. I alos tried with DNS 320 firmware version 2.0 and Beta version 2.01. I had the same issues. Please help.

Finally, I got a solution for this. There is an issue with multiple folder share. I had two folders (including Volume_1) set up with full access mode. Now I changed the Volume_1 acess to specific account and left the other folder with full access to all accounts. That resolved the issues. WD Live Plus can connect thru Network share without any error.
