Lost connection! Reset fix?
« on: July 12, 2011, 08:31:50 AM »

So I've been using my DNS-323 with my Mac (OS 10.6.8) for over a year. The other day I tried to access it using an assigned IP of '192.168.1.4' but it wouldn't connect (timed out). I've tried to do a network scan to find it and the address doesn't exist anymore – but a new share called 'dlink-9e42a1' appears under 'Shared' now that I can't seem to access either with my login or the DNS default login.

So my questions are:

1. Any ideas as to what happened? Why did it suddenly lose its address, become inaccessible and appear as a new 'dlink-xxxx' share that I've never seen before?

2. Last resort, if I do a hardware reset of the box, will the hard drive's retain their data and not be formatted or otherwise lost? The original setup is 2 Western Digital 1TB Green drives formatted using the DNS-323 as EXT3.

Thanks for any help!

Not sure what would have caused your issue.  Factory reset should not affect the data on your drives.  I have done it many times with no problems.  You might want to try the Easy Search Utility to see if you can access the config from there before doing the reset.
