Disconnections - wired directly to router
« on: July 18, 2011, 02:54:05 AM »

I need some help.  I have had my DIR-825 for a year and half.  Had a recent storm where power went out for just a little bit of time.  My computer that is wired directly to the router keeps losing the connection to the router - unable to obtain an address.  All of my other devices (that are connected via wireless) still hold the connection with no issues.  I've checked the cable, unplugged/plugged back into the router, and it shows connection on the network card on the back of the computer.

I have used the system interface to ensure the address is a valid one.  I have powered up and down the computer multiple times and have also powered down and up both the router and the cable modem.

What are the next steps ?

Swap out the NIC in the PC and try a new one?
Swap out cable for a new one, Cat 6 is preferred, Cat 5e minimum.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
