Totally new to NAS so please excuse my ignorance if any....

I am trying to simply copy a folder full of files and subfolders to my 2TB seagate drive I installed in in the DNS 325 but I am unable to do so. It copies the folder but not its contents. I have webdav and afs enabled on the Drive and get copy individual files over but not folders with files. I read on a apple forum to enable the "named streams" but this has not fixed the issue(http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4017). I'm a loss and hopefully someone can help me!!!! I have successfully configures the 325 to function as my Time Machine backup drive and that is working perfectly its this one particular issue that has me stumped!

Thanks for any help or clues you might give.

Computer Info:
10.6.7
Dual Quad Core
16GB RAM
Nas Drive(s): 2 TB (volume1) 1 TB(volume2)
DNS 325 Firmware: 1.01

Sorry to hijack this thread, but You mentioned being able to use the Time machine function with this device. Could you describe how? I am stumped trying to get this to work.

Hey Sabba,
I enabled "Time Machine Backups" by going to the applications tab>local backups>Time Machine and then selected the volume to use as the backup drive. Afterwards you select it as a backup drive under the usual time machine option in system preferences on your MAC.

I found that it may have problem to copy files through Samba from Mac to NAS. It is a bug caused by Mac's Finder. If you use AFP, it just works fine.

Thanks Wilson for replying...So basically you connect by going to Go>Connect To Server and typing in afp://196.xxx.xxx.xxx ?

Have you had luck transferring a large group of files? Does it matter what the file extensions are?

Wilson have you noticed that your file sizes are completely displayed incorrectly when you look at them on the NAS itself with finder? and when you "Get Info" on them they are correct. Seems like this device might be shady on a MAC.

This is what worked for me.

1st click the check box for "show time machine status in menu bar"

2nd get ride of error code 45 by following the procedure here:

http://www.levelofindirection.com/journal/2009/10/10/using-a-networked-drive-for-time-machine-backups-on-a-mac.html

the following widget may help along the way.

Hi guys,

I found these two tutorials for Mac OS on the German ftp server of dlink:
Data access:
ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dns/dns-325/documentation/DNS-325_howto_verALL_MacOSX_Datenzugriff_de_110404.pdf

Time Machine:
ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dns/dns-325/documentation/DNS-325_howto_verALL_MacOSX_TimeMachine_de_110404.pdf
There are a lot of images, so these tutorials may be useful for some of you.

I was wondering the same thing.
Try to copy 13000 songs going into each folder to get the mp3 is not fun.
So if anyone has an answer that would be great.

After lots of frustrating hours, 1 return of the DNS 325, and now a beta firmware update I have successfully moved thousands of files in folders to the DNS 325. I'm not sure if the new beta made it work but what worked for me was going to the finder then GO>Connect to Server>and putting in afp://192.xxx.xxx.xxx/(Folder Name). Once that mounted to my desktop I was able to drag and drop folders with files to the NAS with no issues. I didn't have to split up large files or folders. I literally transferred 750gb to the unit with no errors.

I wish MAC directions had been more clear in the manual or anywhere for that matter but after some trial and error it is working just fine!!
