Heya.
I have a little problem here and after visiting a lot of forums where people don't know what the cause might be and doing countless things, i wanted to have a go on the Dlink forum itself so here I am.
First I'll describe my home-network set up after which i will explain what the problem exactly is and what i have done to try and solve it.
The situation:I got a Ubee modem and a D-link router, both wireless.
The ubee modem is downstairs and the D-link router is upstairs.
The Ubee modem has IP: 192.168.178.1 , DHCP turned on within the range of 192.168.178.10 - 192.168.178.33
In the LAN1 port of it there is a cable leading upstairs to my D-link router where it enters the D-links LAN1 port. The D-link has IP: 192.168.178.10 and his DHCP and UPnP are turned off. Both modem and router have different network names and keys and different channels for transmitting.
i have computers in my house ( 3 desktops and 2 laptops) all connected wireless to the D-link router.
The problem:When I'm playing online games or listening to webradio i often get huge lag spikes, 3 to 4 seconds long. In game ( world of warcraft most times) i get ping-raises for up to 1000 MS latency for over 3 minutes following one of those lagspikes. The webradio just stops for 5 seconds then starts rebuffering to continue playing, sometimes completely shutting out until i reload the .pls file
It occurs on different times of the day, theres no wireless phones in the neighbourhood of the router nor computer transmitting on the same frequency. There is no lag spikes when connected to the modem instead of the d-link. The lag spikes don't occur on all PC's at the same time. ( i played wow with a friend here, we had lag spikes in turns, or sometimes disconnects, while sitting right next to each other).
My wireless signal according to the router is 80% or higher at all times. inSSIDer ran a log while having lag spikes and it stated that the signal never dropped below -50 DBi.
I pinged the D-link router while having a lag spike using command prompt. it said the following:
bytes: 32 time: 420 ms TTL=64
bytes: 32 time: 1427 ms TTL=64
bytes: 32 time: <1 ms TTL=64
bytes: 32 time: 1025ms TTL=64
when i don't have lag spikes it reports an average of 1 or 2 ms. sometimes <1 ms.
I have tried:as you can see i gathered some facts about the network already. the lag spikes occur on different moments and to my knowledge quite random. The lag spikes only occur with the d-link router.
The non DHCP set-up was one of my attempts which failed. at first i had the router just configured on factory standards and the cable between modem and router running from modems LAN1 to routers WAN. ( this is the set-up as its was at first).
i hope someone here can help me fix this problem cause its getting pretty annoying
