HELP! DNS-321 Cannot Read Files OS/X 10.6 AND WINDOWS 7
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:24:23 PM »

I hope someone can help = I am at my witts end.. I have the DNS-321 that I use for family pictures backup/access. I also have a DuoPro Drive raid on my mac which is my primary picture storage. I got the 321 so my wife can access the pictures over the network and if she deletes them I have the master copy still on a raid..  Anyway, on both OS/X and Windows 7 "certain" folders have a little red circle-minus sign and when you click says you don-t have permission to read these files. 90% of the files you can read fine. It seems to be folders with multiple folders below. It's like a permission thing.. I cannot figure it out and I am going mad.. Any help Appreciated..

For what it's worth, I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 and MacBook running Snow Leopard. I often ran into situations where I would copy to the NAS using the MacBook and would not have permissions to do anything with them in Windows, even when logging into the NAS as the same user from both machines. The only way I obtained access to the files from all machines was setting all the accounts back to default.

@amp300,

Can you explain what you mean it works once I reset it to "default access"?

Thanks!

@amp300,

I'm guessing @amp300 means removing all user accounts so that the NAS is wide open to anyone without authentication.
