Hi, I have a DNS-320 (HW A1, FW 2.00), and I put a WD20EADS inside: D-LINK says it's compatible.
During the configuration, the HDD format arrived to 10% completion, and a .NET error occurred.
The HDD had been recognized correctly, but after the error no way to let the NAS recognize it (No Hard Drives).

After reading along this FORUM I tried to:
1. change slot
2. reset
3. reload FW 2.00
4. insert the disk after DNS-320 completely boot

but everything was useless.

Some questions:

• I found a 2.01BETA: any hope with this new FW?
• Did anyone experience problems with WD20EADS?
• Did anyone experience .NET errors during setup?

I've read somewhere in the documentation that the DNS-320 expects a blank drive (ie. with no partition).
If you have a desktop computer with an empty SATA slot or a usb adapter, try plugging it in and deleting all partitions using a disk utility.

Correct! That is what I just performed and also the PC can't see the disk:    disk failed while formatting

Just to be sure, here's how to do this (from memory) on windows :

• Plug in the drive and boot the computer
• Right click on the "Computer" icon and chose "manage"
• Click on "disk management"
• In the list on the right, you should see all the hard drives of your computer, including the one you want to blank
• right click on every partition of that drive and delete the partition

If the drive does not appear in the management console, it probably means the drive is defect. Hard drives are fragile and this happens all the time, sadly. Even when the drives are a few days old.

Unfortunately that is very true.  If it is a new drive return it under warranty.
