Just bought this router...can't connect to Internet.
« on: July 20, 2011, 11:05:47 PM »

Just got this router. A1 hardware and it came with stock 1.02 FW.

I do the Internet connection wizard and it cannot connect. My linksys 54g works perfect with the same cables. The routers LCD says it's offline without ever changing.

Should I update the FW? And to which one? I read that 1.15 is the best?

Please help. I got this so I can setup wireless N since everything I have is N.

Keep your current FW. No really need to update.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
Check the cabling to ensure good working condition, swap cables.

Set up the router using the Basic/Internet/Manual settings
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Basic/Internet/Manual?

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router under Basic/networking.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Once you have the router going for internet,
The set WiFi mode to single mode N.
Need to find out if you have to use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz, not all devices support 5Ghz.
Set security to Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher is auto or AES only. Play with this.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
-Cable. Cox
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
-Stand alone modem
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
-I can check when I get home.
Check the cabling to ensure good working condition, swap cables.
-Cables are good. Windows 7 finds the network but no internet access.

Set up the router using the Basic/Internet/Manual settings
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Basic/Internet/Manual?
-Dns ip was not being filled in. All 0.0.0.0. So I manually set the ip's still did not work.

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
-Cannot find this option anywhere.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
-Have not turned it off ever.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router under Basic/networking.
-Everything connecting fine to the wifi. Just no Internet.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
-Yeah I changed my ip back from static and just indefinitely reserved the IP in this router.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
-I have no clue how to do this. This windows firewall or the firewall in the router?

Wifi doesn't seem to be an issue. I changed it to match your settings. Only thing is when I scan for wireless networks the "dlink" one shows up for a couple of seconds and then disappears. "dlink" being the default name.  So both the network that I named it and the "dlink" one show up at the same time for a very short period of time. Is this normal?

It's in the router settings, can't remember exactly where, though.

Scenebean: Were you able to find the firewall settings and change TCP and UDP to Endpoint Independent?

It does sound like a firewall issue to me, too.  If not that, maybe defective hardware.

I would switch around your ethernet cables from router to modem.  My cat6 cables work fine with my 4500 but with a Linksys 4200 would drop to 100MBPS where it should have been 1 Gigabit.

Leave it to Robear (FurryNutz).  He knows these routers like the back of his hand.  :D
