Ok so after two attempts at installing fun_plug into my DNS-320 which i got this weekend I havnt been happy with the results and removed it both times.
The first time everything went ok, I had tried and failed to install transmission and get the web gui working, was going to try and fix it today however it had decided to automatically change the root password so i couldnt ssh in to the box. DELETE!

the second time all was going quite well, i had installed fun_plug fine, even manage to get close to installing transmission (the web gui was now returning access denied rather than no site found) tried installing twonkey media to stream my media across the internet, works local, not over the internet, very little help anywhere online since people having significantly different set ups. ALSO every time I was rebooting the NAS device the RSA fingerprint was resetting and the root password was being cleared. Not willing to take that security risk so time to DELETE!

FTP problems - I also havnt been able to ftp into the box remotely using a dyndns address. with funplug installed i can log in however i only have root folder access and no files or folders listed. Without funplug installed i get "530 Login authentication failed" in filezilla (which is more than was happening last time which was just "critical error".

If anyone can point me to a working tutorial to get transmission working with remote web ui management, and have some way of streaming my media over the internet (since now it looks like you have to buy twonky after 30 days) i would be hugely appreciative. it claims ajaxplorer can do this however it only ever seems to download the file rather than stream it.
Thanks
Andy
P.s i have opened and checked all ports using canyouseeme doesnt seem to be a problem there.
p.p.s I have virgin media 30mb connection using their "super"hub as my router.
update: i tried mapping the NAS in windows 7 over the internet using the dyndns address. even though this address connects in filezila (just the authentication fails) i get a "network path not found" error from windows
