iMac No connect to Wifi
« on: August 12, 2011, 11:20:26 AM »

First off, using a iMac Laptop. As I've noticed no one's posted with that yet.

Ok. Purchased the DIR-601. I have set up the Admin. Created the Wireless Network (As far as I'm aware) with a WPA-Personal.

I think in might be that I need to connect via Static IP. I have it set for Dynamic IP.
I can use internet via Ethernet but as soon as I try to pick the nework I created. It tells me Connection was Timed out!

Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
Be sure the change the SSID name from dlink to something different, can be anything.

Other Tips:
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Cable Modem ISP Service.
Stand Alone. Connects via Ethernet cord to Comp.
It's a Ubee model.

I've tried single mode G or mixed G and N.

It still says that Connection was timed-out. That's the main problem.
Ethernet through Router works just fine however!

Can you connect via wifi if you temporarily turn off WiFi security on single G and mixed G and N?
Can other WiFi devices connect?

Hmm..ok, are there any other WiFi routers in the near by vacinity?
What OSX version are you using?

I would do this, Factory reset the router using the back button or from the routers web page via LAN cable under Tools/System.

Turn off the Wifi on the Laptop.

Use the LAN cable from the LT to the Router to log back in set set up the WiFi for single mode G with out any security for now. Set a SSID name. Channel and Width should be set for auto.

Make sure you get Internet over the wired connection. Then disconnect the cable and turn on Wifi on the LT. See if the WiFi will auto connect, it should or use the drop down to connect to the SSID you set up.

THere are other Wifi connections but I can't get into them either because they're Secured or far too weak.

OOOH! Resetting Router did the trick.
I just then went through Setup Wizard and it worked immediately.

So everything is settled. Thanks!
