Worth mounting a raid 1?
« on: August 23, 2011, 07:13:26 AM »

For that is the question. At first I bought the dns with two discs to backup each other. Now I've been reading in raid1 cheese if losconfiguras lecturadel lavelocidadde greatly improves it.
It's worth riding raid 1?
Use the disc to play video. and store data

If you have a separate physical backup of your data, then you can benefit from RAID 1. However, if the only copy of your data are the two HDDs in the DNS-325, then your data is potentially at risk if you use RAID 1. Using RAID 1, if you delete a file on HDD1, the data is instantly deleted on HDD2 - so there are no recovery options for accidentally deleted data. Additionally, if a virus attacks HDD1, the changes/corruptions are immediately copied to HDD2.

The DNS-325 does a have a Recycle Bin option that should protect from accidental deletions, if you can get that feature working properly.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from using RAID 1, just be mindful that RAID is not a replacement for a true physical backup.

Well I have been too small so now 325.
Think of it, I would like a 325, but I RAID1 care if or if a backup of it so I can not because the USB does not have the option to backup

An alternate to RAID 1 are two standard volumes with a scheduled backup from HDD1 to HDD2. Using this strategy, you have control over when HDD1 copies to HDD2.

Exactly, it's like I have it working now.
Regular copies of HDD1 to HDD2.
The problem is I have no benefits or improvements RAID1

I saw in another post demonstration of the web interface 325. There to see the the 343?

Thanks again for your feedback.

Have photos of your 343??

Here is a link to the DNS-343 emulator: http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dns343/103/login.html
Keep in mind that this is an older device with an older interface, but is the only 4-bay device currently offered by D-Link. I imagine that D-Link will eventually release an upgraded version of this model, similar to how the DNS-320 and DNS-325 replace the DNS-321 and DNS-323.

The web interface contains less features than the DNS-343 and the DNS-343 hardware is older. I'm not saying the DNS-343 is a good, affordable device, I'm just pointing out that the hardware is dated compared to these newer two-bay DNS product lines.
