I have a DNS-325 on order (and two Hitachi 5K3000 2 TB drives to go with it). I plan to use it primarily for backup purposes, using imaging software. So far, I have been using Acronis True Image with external (USB 2.0) drives, but I could switch to FarStone's TotalRecovery Pro, which appears to be bundled with the DNS-325 (although there's no mention of it in the D-Link doc.).
In Acronis True Image, I can create a "bootable rescue media". It is a CDROM which, as the name implies, will let me boot from it in emergency cases: I can then access the external drive and restore one of the images it contains to the computer the external drive is connected to. My question is: is it possible to create such a "bootable rescue media" in True Image, TotalRecovery Pro or any other imaging software (Macrium Reflect, ShadowProtect etc.) so that it will be able to access the data on the DNS-325. I understand accessing a NAS is more demanding that accessing a locally-connected USB drive, hence my question.
Of course, if I have a 2nd computer and an external USB drive with enough empty space on it, I could first use it to copy the image from the DNS-325 to the external USB drive, then connect the drive to the 1st computer and use the bootable rescue media to restore the image from the USB drive to the computer. But it would be nice to be able to do the restore directly from the DNS-325, without any extra hardware.
Thanks,
Dominique
