DIR-825 Wireless N Shareport Speed (802.11N)
« on: February 05, 2009, 09:51:52 AM »

Just wanted to get the forums opinion on the speed that most are getting with Shareport and 802.11N and various configurations.

Looking to expand Wireless N to the entire home, and connect up various HD sources.  So before jumping in with both feet, I wanted to test the transfer speeds.

I ran a few real world tests today and here is what I'm getting (Environmental Variables to follow)

Wired Benchmark Comparison
17 seconds for 80MB (Wired) = 4.7 MB/sec

Tests 1-4 Completed with DWA-160 D-LINK Driver Version 3.0.0.125

TEST1 (2.4 & 5 Ghz Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz
1 Minute 15 seconds for 80MB (Wireless) = 1.06 MB/sec

TEST2 (2.4 & 5 Ghz Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz
1 Minute 17 seconds 80MB (Wireless) = 1.04 MB/sec

TEST3 (5 Ghz ONLY Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz
1 Minute 15 seconds 80MB (Wireless) = 1.06 MB/sec

TEST3 (5 Ghz ONLY Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz - (Wireless N Mode only on Adapter)
1 Minute 16 seconds 80MB (Wireless) = 1.05 MB/sec

TEST4 (5 GHz Only Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz - (Wirelsss N Mode Only on Adapter)
1 Minute 15 seconds 80MB (Wireless) = 1.06 MB/Sec

**TESTS 5 Completed with DWA-160 Atheros Driver Verzion 3.0.0.131**
TEST5 (5 GHz Only Enabled on Router) - Connected to 5GHz - (Wireless N Mode Only on Adapter)
1 Minute 16 seconds 80MB (Wireless) = 1.05 MB/sec

Environmental Variables
-  20 Feet from router (1 wall (gyprock)  + 1 door in between (wooden) )
-  Only other wireless device present in home = GSM Cell (no interference)
-  Reported connection speed on DIR-825 Wireless Tool = 162 Mbps w/60% Signal Strength
-  Using the DWA-160 adapter connected on 5Ghz Band (Bonded to 40Mhz)
-  DWA-160 is the only adapter connecting to the DIR-825
-  2.4Ghz band has been disabled on the DIR-825
-  No encryption enabled (open)
-  QOS & Wish disabled

Note: Test were run at the 2.4Ghz band, but were about 20-30% slower.

Thanks!!
