connection drop problems
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:15:49 AM »

i'm connected to cable modem in israel with L2TP connection and i'm notice'd that after almost 5 days my router reconnected again.
on the log file i can't see anything about the reason for the disconnection, but i'm wondering:
how much long my router should hold the connection active? it's weird that after 4 or 5 days he replaced my ip address again and "0 days 11:00" connected on status.
i'm afraid that this router is problematic because my cable modem is connected all time and the router dropped the connection randomally.
what can i do? the hardware is rev B1 and firmware 2.02.
the wireless is channel 11 with wish active, and no qos engine that cause this router to reboot himself.
please help me to resolve this issue.
and one more thing: if i want to get enter to this website i'm got an error message that i banned from this forum because i spammer, it's my first time that i getting enter here.
my isp in israel is 013 netvision.

I would ask if there is any modem logs regarding disconnections on the modem side as well. The router will exhibit disconnections if the modem isn't working either.
Checking the web site for your region, is there a more recent FW version than 2.02?

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

there is no modem side logs, i can't access to my cable modem and take a log's from there, but i see that he is working all time (thomson tcm425).
firmware 2.02 is the latest in israel.
when i enter dns server manually the router doesn't connect to internet at all - very weird.
i turned off all qos.
i don't have advanced dns services on my router.
dns relay is on right now, otherwise i need to enter dns manually in NIC.
dhcp reservation is on all my pc's including asus laptop.
all devices get DHCP ip address.
firewall settings is endpoint, upnp and multicast is on.
wireless g and n mixed mode on channel 9, wpa personal security.
i'm using only one laptop and samsung galaxy smartphone.
i don't have Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection options on my router.
the cable between modem and router is new one that i bought.

Factory reset the router and configure the router from scratch once more using some of the suggestions I posted. If that fails then I would call your local D-Link support office for additional help.
