Windows 7 and Sharecenter backup software issue
« on: October 08, 2011, 02:21:41 PM »

Hi

I can no longer set up a backup using my DNS-320 and windows 7 ultimate PC.

All was working once (after much hassle) but after a system restore I can't get the share center backup working. After typing in the correct location on the URL , the test comes with an error about location not available.

Location works fine over the network on other devices but the backup software refuses to work. I know windows 7 has various security options, anyone know how to get this working?

i have my PC backup to the DNS 320 on a weekly basis using synctoy2.
(used to use this on a DNS-323 and its been working for years now)

Basically I have the profiles created for synctoy.
I also have an command line email app. to let me know whats happened!
The I have a batch file which sends the email at the start, runs synctoy in a command line copying the output to a log file and then I send a second email with the log file at the end.
I then use the task manager to run the batch file in the early hours.

I expect 2 emails in the morning, the start and finish.  If I don;t get the finish, I know there is a problem.  I can also look in the log file to see whats happened.

The setup works perfectly for me.

PM me if you want more details.
Takes about 30 minutes to setup the whole thing once you down load the files and assuming you have a copy of the apps required.
(also that you have a googlemail account - or know your smtp details)

Why synctoy and not an app... basically I get fedup with backup apps not doing what they say and all I want is a file copy on the NAS.  Also my NAS is a media server running twonky, so I want the origional files not some mashed up propriatry system.  So I prefer to do a simple copy of the files as a backup.

Synctoy is both free and it has the ability to echo or sync the files, which is basically all you need.

I have noticed that I cannot use sync centre since the lastest BETA firmware. Can one of you please confirm this as a bug as the person doing the Firmware buglist wont accept till confirmation

Cheers
