Lptps won't connect at same time
« on: February 10, 2009, 12:14:53 PM »

New to wireless so assume I know nothing. I have managed to set up our four computers and a Wii. Problem is my sons' laptops refuse to connect at the same time.... Even if nothing else in the house is connected, the minute one son signs on the other one gets booted. They have IBM Thinkpads, one with an internal g card and one with a Linksys 2.4 ghz 802.11g card. (Had to get an external card) because I couldn't get his internal one to work. Our desktop is a g, and my husband's new laptop is an n. It all works fine except when these two laptops want to be connected at the same time. Help - I'm having kids arguing  ::)

It might be easier for you to contact tech support and have them walk you through with what you need to do.
Tech Support: 877-453-5465

Or if you Rather communicate through here, you're more than welcome to, however we might be going back and forth with asking questions. I'll be happy to help along with other users whom happen to jump in this thread.

1st question: What are all the Operating systems on each PC?

2nd Question: Do you know if the PC's in house have static IP's or set to obtain an IP address automatically

What I'm trying to get you to do is set DHCP reservation. If all your PC's are set to obtain an IP automatically please reference the following link.

Thanks for your prompt help. I considered calling but thought it might be unpractical to run around around the house figuring out different things about 4 computers on the phone. So your patience with me is much appreciated. Three of the computers are XP including the problem laptops and main/routered desktop and my husband has Vista on his new laptop. All have set/assigned non-varying IP addresses. Following the link you provided, three show up on the reserved "DHCP" table, though with expired dates from August before we even bought the router or laptops. One of the problem laptops using the Linksys adapter does not show up at all. I figured out the MAC address to that one - should I add it? And should all have the "Enable DHCP" box checked or unchecked. Thank you, Robyn

The 3 that do show up in the DHCP client list, go ahead and reserve those IP's. Make sure to hit the save button. As for the PC that is not listed.. I'm assuming that has a static IP? Please confirm and have it set to obtain an IP address automatically (You will probably have to reconnect to your wireless network after changing this).

After connecting verify you can pull an IP address and check the DHCP client list as well, then reserve the IP.
