Dir-825 Rev A and Samsung Galaxy Note 2
« on: November 13, 2012, 06:38:48 AM »

Hello all.
I was wondering if anyone can give me some help with setting this router up to work with the note 2.
The note 2 can connect with the router if I have the router set to open but when I change the security to anything else it keeps re-authenticating and will not connect.
Have only been using the wired before and it works great but now need to connect note 2 to do backups.
I have even tried resetting the router back to factory settings and turning on WiFi again and no luck.
Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
What security modes does the device officially support? You'll need to refer to the Mfr support information on this. Usually newer devices support either WPA or WPA2 and either TPIK and or AES.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Hello FurryNutz
Thanks for your quick reply and I am sorry I did not get back onto this till now.
I should have mentioned that it is a Rev A and am using the latest firmware 1.13NA for this router.
As per the Samsung site it supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot.

I was trying WPA-Personal with the auto and then only the AES as mentioned in some andriod forums and it kept reconnecting.
I then used your reply and did all of the steps in the order you mentioned them and nothing changed till I changed the WPA-Personal to TPIK and it connected ( auto did not work)
I have not tried to transfer any files yet but I have surfed the web via WiFi with the phone and the speed test is the same as the pc one.
I have it set up with two different passwords for the 2.4 ghz and the 5 ghz. I used g and n for the 2.4 and n only for the 5 ghz as per your reply. I set the channel width for auto on both also. I set the WPA mode as Auto ( WPA or WPA2) on both also.
I can connect on the 2.4ghz connection with no problem but if I try to change to the ghz band I get Authentication error occurred. I am not worried about it right now as I can connect with the 2.4 ghz band but I may do some playing around to see if I can figure out why I cant in the other band as the settings are the same just a different password.

Thanks again for all of your help with this and getting it working for me. Now I can do backup with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone.

Glad you got it working better using the TPIK only mode. Theres been alot of Samsung device users on the forums not being able to use AES correctly and usually TPIK only mode works best for them.

One possible reason why your device might not connect to the 5Ghz radio is that some devices don't support 5Ghz WiFi.  ::)

Glad 2.4Ghz is working well for you now.
