Just curious if there are any plans to re-visit the firmware and update the code (Trim the fat, fix some known bugs, etc).  I know it's been a while since the last update (1.23NA - 8/05/2010).

Also, is there an EOL date set for this device? 

I know the only people who could answer this are D-Link employees.  Just curious as to how active they are in the forums.

From what I know, I don't think there will be any FW updates unless Dlink finds something or we find something that really effects the routers use.

Unfortunately, the 4500 is the end of the line for the DGL series.  Ya, it's a shame, has been the best router I've had side the 825 I have now. I wish they would include IPv6 however it's on listed as supporting it on there web page. Maybe if we call came together and asked them nicely, maybe they would consider it, however there are other considerations too, maybe the HW isn't supporting of it. I'm sure there could be FW developed however HW has to support it too. And cost of development and testing. Then you have marketing which Im sure wouldn't like that since it would distract from making those who want IPv6 from buying something new that does have it. Who knows. 

Wish there was going to be a follow on DGL too. 

What are some know bugs?

Well, in that case, then I guess it will never be revisited.

If I understand correctly, it could be corrected via firmware (If there is enough storage).

Most equipment would be IPv6 capable with a software or firmware update if the device has sufficient storage and memory space for the new IPv6 stack.

What are some know bugs?

And a flaw/bug that should be either removed or fixed (Email setting).

Overall, I don't have any major concerns/gripes.  But, when a company uses their resources to continually improve on their firmware while the device is still being produced is good practice.  I haven't come across a device that has flawless firmware.

Ya, I think if they could work a fix if it didn't take up too much storage or maybe the current storage is already used up. I have never seen any WRT or 3rd party FW for this unit. Makes me wonder why?  Possible Dlink has the DGL's locked down or something.

Well, maybe if we came together and sent something off to them, maybe they would at least look into it.  Who knows.

What email setting are you referring too?
That one link could be a DLink issue however working with Nintendo on a few other products, it seems to be a Nintendo thing with there security. Not sure why some of there devices don't support WPA. 

Ya, FW is never perfect. Why we are all beta testers.

It's the email settings to send off the logs, etc via Gmail.  I know there is a 'work-around', but it could be fixed so it can work with any email provider.  Like I said, nothing too important for me, but others may think differently.

It does work with mine. I don't think it's a bug as more a configuration issue. You have to use your ISPs SMTP mail address then put in any recipient email address. I use my cableone address for SMTP and my recipient is netscape.net.

Yea, I know.  I'd prefer using my Gmail account.

Call me stubborn.     But, the firmware should support any email account.

It goes, just have to use your ISP as the SMTP. Thats the case in most routers anyways. The data is handled by the ISP anyways. Unless your using web based email then thats all HTTP.
