Shareport troubles on DIR 827
« on: March 22, 2012, 10:07:20 AM »

D-Link SharePort enabled Product Model: DIR 827

D-Link Product FW Version: 1.02

Operating System being used (Windows XP?, Vista?, Win 7 32 or 64 bit, Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6, etc) including any Service Packs or 32/64 bit information: Windows 7 64-bit, SP1

SharePort Version: 4.0.0 B2

USB Product (Printer, Disk Drive, or other device) Model and Driver Version: HP Scanjet N6010

Describe the issue:
I'm not seeing the Scanjet in the sharepoint utility.  Prior to the 827 I had a DIR 655 and had this working fine.  But since switching to the 827, no luck.  I can see the "dlinkrouter" entry in the device server view, but when I switch to show the actual devices on the server, I get
"No USB devices were found on the network.
Make sure your USB devices are attached properly to a device server"

I'm running Symantec Endpoint 12, but have tried disabling that entirely.

I have not yet plugged the device into my PC directly, but since this was working with the 655 I think that may be a waste of time.

On my 655 I had an option in the setup to configure the USB port for shareport or some other setting.  I am trying to find that same setting in the 827 but don't see it.  There's only a 'media server' setting, which is not what I want.  I assume the 827 still supports this, right?  Do I need to roll back to a prior FW revision?

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

Is this the only devices that fails to appear in SP? Do any other USB devices appear in SP?

Well I feel dumb.  :P

I plugged a flash stick in, and bingo I see it in SP.

I unplug it and plug the scanner back in, and now it appears.

Before I had unplugged/replugged at the back of the device, not at the router (which is up on top of a high shelf).  This time I unplugged/replugged at the back of the router.  I'm at a loss, but I am glad it's working again.

I know this scanner goes idle if it's been sitting too long - no big news there - and I wonder if that played a part in this.  Or maybe my plug at the back of the router was never secure in the first place...  ::)

Glad you found a fix and it's working. One thing I have noticed, sometimes its take a good while, say 2-3 minutes before SP finds anything. So just plugging in, you might not see an immediate response. All I know is that before I use SP. I turn off the router and device. Turn ON device and connect it to SP, then turn on the router and let it come to ready. Then launch SP. Usually it finds something.

Enjoy.
