Remote Management
« on: August 29, 2011, 11:27:01 AM »

I'm trying to remotely manage my dir-628 and am having difficulty.  As long as I directly connect (wired) to one of the LAN ports I can connect and do any configuration I want.  In tools, I've enabled remote management for any IP, and set the port to port 80 to make everything simple.  So when I connect the 628 and my workstation to the same switch, using an ip address on my workstation on the same subnet as the internet address of the 628, it won't connect.  Periodically I'll get a "transferring data from xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa (the ip address of the 628)...but never get the menu to log in.  I've got to think its something simple.

Any clues out there?

How are you entering the remote address into the browser?

Also:
What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I am typing in http://ipaddress:8080
HW version is A2
FW version is 1.22NA

We have a 10meg internet feed from the State of Minnesota...but I'm just testing from a machine plugged in to the router ethernet port.  In anycase, the ISP modem make and model are moot points as neither are involved at this point.

DHCP is indeed configured and enabled
Advanced DNS is turned off
DNS Relay is on
Will check the fw settings on the 628, give it a try and let you know.

Thanks for the time you took to respond.
