I'm trying to have a website name:  remote.test.com  route to a local IP address but can't seem to get it working with this router.  I don't want to use the windows hosts file as there are different Operating Systems that will connect and so routing though this D-Link is the only option. 

I have my wireless router connected to a separate network switch though it's WAN port where other computers sit as well as the target machine.  I can use the internet as normal like this so things are working fine.

I have gone into the Advanced > Routing of this D-Link and set the following but can't get it to work:
Name: remote.test.com
Destination IP: 192.168.1.2  (this is hard coded into the destination machine)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.2

The wireless gives out addresses from 192.168.0.100-150.  I can ping the destination machine from the command prompt. 


How do i get this working?

How is your network set up? It's preferred to use the following:
ISP Modem> DIR router> external switch<PCs and devices connected to switch for wired connections.

I have a setup where it's Modem > router with various switches for different groups of computers.  From this switch is where the 601 wireless is plugged in so it groups special wireless users that connect to it into a group.  This setup is what i have to use. 

So, back to my original question, how do i make this dlink 601 forward requests to a WAN IP address (up one level but still a local IP 192.x.x.x)?  I went into Advanced > Routing but after entering the website and IP it won't work.  Where should i be entering this?  Any examples?

I am not understanding what you are trying to do. Routing is to assign a device on your LAN a IP which is obtained from the DHCP server on what ever network the WAN port on the 601 plugs into. It can't conflict with the range your router's own DHCP servers uses though.

But I need to know way more info then that to actually help you. What are you using for your DNS? Do you have the server on the 601 or outside of it? Is it a web server? Mail server? What ports? What OS? You asked for a 1000 dollar answer but only gave me 43 cents of information. :-)

Have been away so don't read anything into the "No reply"

Since I'm routing a website name to a local IP this is for a web server on port 80.  The server has a static 192.0.x.x IP.  DNS and DHCP are handled by another device for all of the computers; the 601 is assigned a static IP in that network and it's clients are assigned to a different IP block.

This networking concept is not hard as I have done this on several different networks with other routers.  The problem is the 601 won't forward the given request to a specific IP through it's WAN port OR I can't where to set this up at in the 601.  From the 601 interface, I can ping the destination IP address successfully so connection is not a problem. 

Is it possible for this device to route a website name to an IP?  If not, let me know and I'll return this product.

Yea, I suggest you return this router. You are trying to use it in a way that is well beyond it's design.
