Man you have got to be kidding me.

I set this up, format out a raid 5 and it's doing a whoopin' 12MB/sec sometimes it even hits 22MB/sec

I ditched a buffalo nas 2TB for this very same reason. Years went by, even had one of the techs in the forum telling me that it was the correct speed, etc, etc.

Listen my grandmother can transfer data quicker than 12MB/sec over gigabit switch.... AND SHE'S DEAD!

I'm gonna have to call grandma and get her to sneaker net me 4GB of data over because I believe even with her walker it would be faster...

I am a big BIG d-link fan, i love the products and could NOT wait to get my hands on this dns-343 and to my very large disappointment this thing connects at gigabit just to transfer at 100mbit speed.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me it's something i'm doing wrong, some magical setting i've missed, some beta firmware that wakes it up... something please! This can't be all it can do!!! not for 400 dollars it has to be better than this!!!! Please someone wake me from the nightmare! I'm so let down; I'm looking at the box just thinking about packaging it back up and returning it. Say it ain't so d-link...

Unfortunately this product is a few years old, and the CPU is just too slow to properly support greater speeds. This is as good as you can get. :-[

Look at the bright side. Speed on this thing is only a minor problem. Wait til you find out the rest of what this thing can't do!

Another ex-DLink BIG fan.

The DNS-343's price to functionality and performance ratios were quite good when this product was first released. I have two DNS-343s that have never failed me and are still performing admirably to this day. I'm sorry to hear that your experience with D-Link left such an unfavorable impression. Perhaps the improved new and forthcoming DNS models will change your mind.

Wishing I could get 11mb. Lucky to get 150kbs.

Day 6 of trying to move 4 TB off this thing, and I've only managed 300 gb...

I know this is not the answer you are looking for, but if you are unable to resolve this issue in the short term and copying your data is paramount, you may want to look into using one of the software products on the sticky I posted (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=41302.0) for physically mounting DNS volumes in a Windows PC.

For those who are still hoping this device will increase its read and write speed by future firmware updates (myself included), it's time to move on. Just bought a new NAS from other company, read and write speed are hoovering around 100/MB per second. It's a whole new world to me. I loved my DNS-434, at least it had never failed me and caused any data loss, but the speed was just too slow to meet up the file size that we encounter in daily basis.

The DNS-343 is approximately 3+ years old. Given the normal life cycle for consumer grade products and the advancement of technology, the proliferation of new devices with substantially higher transfer rates is expected. I'm waiting to see what the forthcoming DNS-345 has to offer.

It shouldn't matter if the product is 3+ years or not. This junk should not have been sold like it is. When a company sells junk like this, it will hurt them in the long run. I bought my dns-343 for the fact I always relied on D-link. when i got the in the mail and set it up as raid 5 and 4x2 TB, i was pumped. When i averaged 5 - 7 MB/sec. i almost cried. I work in a remote area over seas and had no other options at that time. I needed to copy over 4 TB of info and could not wait the 2 weeks it would have taken to order a new NAS and have it mailed to me before i left
I kept calling the tech support line and after listening to their B.S. telling me to change this speed, no wait change your duplex I had enough. finally i got the tech to admit there is a known problem with the NAS and they don't nor won't have a fix for it.
sorry guys, but not only have they lost a good customer, but i am warning everyone of my tech to be careful what ever they buy from D-link.
