My second RAID 1 disk wont rebuild?
« on: November 10, 2011, 03:03:52 AM »

So I had 2x1TB disks in RAID1, one crashed so i got a new.
The problem is that it wont auto mirror itself. Instead it placed itself as a JBOD disk.

How do i fix this? I can't press the "Manually re-build" button.
So nervous right now to loose all my data, have no redundancy at the moment :/

Screenhot of my problem.

Please, thanks in advance!

The first thing you should do is backup your data. RAID 1 provides redundancy, but is not an alternative to a traditional backup.

Ok, thanks a lot for the text, some new information.

As far as I understand, if I take out the disk labeled as JBOD and format it in a PC and then put it back it should mirror itself as a raid 1?

EDIT: What is the manually rebuild option that is greyed out?

I'm not sure about the "rebuild" option being grayed out.

To answer your first question, if you mount the JBOD HDD in a PC and remove the partitions, then it should see the HDD as a new drive. Again, make a backup first.

For the benefit of other users, would you please share the steps you took to restore your RAID 1?
Glad everything worked out for you  ;)

Same here, glad you solved your issue. However for long term, make sure you do have two copies for your data as oppose to just the NAS. Remember, NAS is just hardware redundancy.
