Random disconnects (wireless & wired) -- solved on A4
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:58:58 AM »

Router hardwired to Sipura 2102 (VOIP ATU) on 1st port with fixed IP. Home server, one desktop, and yamaha amplifier all hardwired. Two 2008/2009 notebooks using WPA2 wireless, Wii, and PS3 using WPA2wireless. Router is behind a ScientificAtlanta cable modem. Service is RoadRunner.

Have had trouble for more than 2 weeks now. With the following settings, have had zero disconnects during the past 2-days. Tried the beta roms, went back to 1.20, 1.21_nosecurespot. Didn't work.

The only ROM that works is v1.21 2008/10/09. File name DIR655A4_FW121B08.bin

After installing, hard reset modem then unplugged it for 30 seconds.

Used the following tweaks --

InternetSettings:
  set provider to [TimeWarner],
set DNS: [1st=ISP's main DNS, 2nd=cablem modem IP]
NetworkSettings:
  disable DNS Relay
set Sipura ATU with Fixed Address, plugged into port 1
Firewall:
disable SPI, set both to endpoint independent
QOS:
  disable autouplink, Set 256kbps

Everything's quick -- phone service quality is above normal, no frequent dropping connections.

Thanks to those who've taken the time to publish their solutions & settings. In my case, it took a combination of several -- the DNS Relay, QOS setting, and SPI all seem to be buggy.

My 2 cents...

Cheers
