Will not pass video stream via wireless
« on: November 08, 2011, 05:58:48 AM »

Using as AP.  Last Tuesday in the middle of a Netflix movie the video stopped.  Now the wireless portion of the DAP-1522 refuses to pass any type of video.  Everything else works (email, Google, Facebook, etc.).  I can get to Netflix, Youtube, Yahoo, etc. .....but none of them will pass video.

Using a direct wired connection to the DAP-1522 everything works.  Netflix, Youtube, etc.

Download speed checks at 17.74mbps.

Any ideas????

What HW version is your AP?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Are there settings for Short GI and WMM Enable? Turn them off?
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the host router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.'

If anything, do a factory reset of the DAP.

HW version = A1
Firmware version = 1.21

Wireless mode = N

No security...open network

Only other wireless connections are Blu-ray player and TV (neither will pass video now)..have taken them offline trying to isolate but no help there

Disconnected and shut down cordless phones trying to isolate...no help there

Closest WiFi router is neighbor approx.  900 ft. away....his signal is "poor"

All settings are default - also did factory reset
Using DHCP on everything

Already did the factory reset....still no joy in Mudville.

And you can get standard Internet data like web site and surf the web right?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Forgot that I also have a Wii connected.  It will not pass Netflix video either.  Gets to the page...allows selection of the movie..but will not play.

All devices the same issue....gets to the page (Netflix, Youtube, etc.) but will not play the video.

ISP is wireless system - Skybeam

No router used for them...the DAP-1522 is the only router.

The internet connection from their radio goes directly to the 1522.

Video works flawlessly wired in my office....but to get it to the TV, Blu-ray, and Wii I need wireless.

Yes, no issue wireless with anything but video.  I am sending the replies via the 1522.   Mail, Facebook, Yahoo, Google, no issues unless they have videos.

Same pages wired direct give no video issues.

Hmm. This is an odd issue. Must say, I'm stumped on this one. Other than maybe reloading FW.
Does video play on Single mode G to test?

Upgraded firmware to 131.  No change. :-(

Did another reset and wireless setup.  Connected laptop, Wii, Blu-ray, and TV.

All devices have the same symptom.  They will browse the web....get to Netflix and show instant queue, Youtube and search videos, etc. but will not play any videos.  Error from Youtube is "video no longer available".  Error from Netflix is "not available for instant".  I just found out that they also will "not connect to Pandora.  Error from Pandora is "cannot connect to internet" yet all devices report that internet connection is good...which is obvious since they will surf.

Hard wired to the same DAP-1522 devices work fine.

Hmm...I would say there might be a configuration issue on the wireless or advances wireless settings. Your getting data traffic over wireless however when you try to stream video it fails. Wired streams video correctly. I would say there is something wrong with the wireless however it's working as far as connections and surfing the web.

Couple of things to try:
1. Swap DAP modes, i.e. Bridge and AP. Does it happen on each mode?

2. Reload FW using the following process"
Factory reset the DAP.
Update using the .bin file.
Factory reset once more.
Configure the DAP.

3. Take this device to a friend, neighbor or family members place and connect it up and see if this issue tracks. Trying to help narrow down and eliminate possibilities here.

4. Get another DAP and see if it does the same thing or not. Possible this unit needs to be RMA'd with Dlink.

Let us know. You might have someone review your DAP settings using teamviewer.

Could it be a QOS issue of some kind?

Yes, there is a possibility. In some cases using QoS out of the box doesn't work well for some platforms. We have to either configure it to work correctly, i.e. gaming is a best example. Or turn it off. I generally have users turn it off if there not doing any high bandwidth applications like gaming or torrents. Streaming is good however if your streaming video and someone is surfing, gaming or streaming something else, it can produce lag and buffing on the video device. In most cases, people are watching video or only doing one thing at a time with the router services. So QoS can be turned off. However if you seem to have multiple devices online and using router services, it's recommended to use QoS to ensure that everyone is getting equal bandwidth and internet.

Host ISP, Router and additional APs need to be properly configured to effect good performance. Any one of these and other external conditions can impact performance.
