Hi there,
Problem:
As the title says I'm getting a download speed of .10Mbps in my desktop but my laptop gets 12Mbps using the same adapter.
Network Specs:
Router: Dir-655 Extreme
Adapter: DWA-130 E1
Everything configured for 802.11n. Using mixed G and N mode because of a laptop and old iPod.
I tried:
First I didn't get a stable connection on the desktop and it took forever to get it. I fixed it by installing the drivers through Device Manager (W7 x64) and skipped the D-Link software. It was working fine until today.
I thought it could be interference with my 2.4Ghz mouse/keyboard but I ruled it out by using them on my laptop with the DWA by it's side (both devices connected at laptop.
My laptop has a ping of 55ms in a local server (by local I mean 50 miles from my house) on speedtest.net while my desktop gets 1000+ms on the same server.
I also ruled out range. I got out of my house like 80ft from the router and still have a good connection my desktop is like 30ft away from the router. I also placed the laptop side-by-side and still has a connection so it's not a dead spot.
I installed the drivers the same way on both system with the only difference being that my laptop OS is 32 bit and desktop 64 so I installed the respective drivers.
I did perform some updates like 2-3 days ago but the problem started today so there's no chance it was the update, besides I performed a system restore just in case and it's still the same so I installed the updates back.
Only difference between laptop and desktop is the Windows, one is 32 bits and the other is 64. I'm running the desktop on a Windows trial (28 days left) because I'm waiting for a new motherboard and cpu. Besides there's supposed to be no differences.
I even tried using other usb port and still nothing. My usb 2.0 speeds are good by the way (Recently transferred some files from a external hard drive and it was at 23mb/s).
I'm writing this from my netbook using the DWA 130 with the Atheros wireless turned off (the internal antennae) and it's working great.
Extra details:
I haven't tried using G only because N works perfectly with my laptop so it couldn't be the signal.
There's no interference with any other routers from neighbors because the houses have a good distance. I mean the only way I could see the neighbors router is going outside, besides they are 802.11g.
Maybe I'm missing a detail or something?
Thanks.
