What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I'm having the exact same issue.   Just bought the DIR-655 router and configured it 3 days ago.   I three laptops and printer connecting wirelessly to the router.  I have two DirecTV receivers and the WII connected to the LAN ports.   In the 3 days every time I'm come home from work the computers won't connect to the wireless network.   None of them even see the router when I can for the SSID that I have chosen for my network.   I even had the Mrs call me at work the following after I configured the network saying she couldn't connect to the wireless network.   She had to wait until I got home and rebooted the router.   As soon I reset the router,  all of laptops and wireless printer will see the SSID and connect to the network.

I to am getting very frustrated.    This is not an issue of signal strength.  I have great signal strength and I am on ch3 and all of the neighboring wireless networks that I have scanned are on ch6 or ch11 and they are not very strong.

I am trying a few of the suggestions by "FurryNutz" to see if they help but I'm not betting on it.  I have changing parameters every evening since I configured my network to no avail.  Still have problem when I come home from work and none of the laptops will connect because they don't see the network.

I will try turning off Short GI.  I'm also setting the 802.11 mode to just b and g.  Originally had it set to b, g, and n.

I'll let you know if i have any succes.

Try single mode G. Unless you have any B devices, B mode isn't needed.

I changed all of my rounter setting as Furry suggestion, change the model as Mix G and N,
Turn off ALL QoS
Turn off Advanced DNS Services
Turn on DNS Relay
also the DNS IP was filled.

I will let you know if it is working..!
anyways, Thank you for Furry's suggestion!

Another frustrated user...

tried all the suggested config and none resolved the problem...just want to know if your laptop is a dell... the issue seems to be a conflict between dell computers and dir 655 router...
mine is an inspiron 6400 dell laptop.

Can you test with wireless security OFF for a while and see if you loose the WiFi? Just long enough to see if you notice the same problem? Let us know.

This is the first evening in three days that I didn't have to reset my DIR-655 (HW ver:B1 with FW ver: 2.00NA) router so that my wireless device could see and join the network when I got home.  Also my wireless printer was still connected to my network.

Things I did:
I unchecked the short GI option and set the 802.11 mode to b and g.   But I also disconnected all my devices (3) from the LAN ports.

I'm connecting the three (3) devices back to the  LAN ports tonight to make sure that didn't have anything to do with the problems.

I'll post again tomorrow and provide status update.

Try single mode G to test if you don't have any B mode devices. Not alot of call or use of B mode anymore. Let us know.
