rename a wireless lan computer on dlink router dir-655
« on: December 12, 2011, 09:51:02 AM »

My Sony internet TV is connected to my (DIR-655) wireless LAN. It is listed on the Status Page and I can identify it by IP address and/or MAC address. The Name field, however is blank. How can I change it so that it is more clearly indicated as my TV connection?

Reserve its address and you can give it any name you like.  I did this with my wireless Blu-ray player.

Log into router : Setup > Network settings > DHCP reservation.

Thanks. That worked great! Would you also have ny idea how I could identify some of the other less than descriptive names to the hardware that they represent (ie. I have two Android devices set up and would like to know which is which.)

Hi BobnPaty,

Turn off one Android device, so it doesn't show up. And name the one that is showing up. This way, you know which is which.

Thanks again. A more observant guy might have figured that out on his own!
