Data Verification errors with Chronosync on Mac
« on: March 01, 2009, 01:36:07 AM »

I use a backup program called Chronosync to do daily/weekly backups for my Macs (10.5.5/10.5.6).... there is a data verification option which I always tick.

I get random but frequent (i.e. more than a few) data verification errors to the NAS. The internal drive worked well -- with no errors -- in a SATA->USB enclosure.

I have tried making disk images and sparse bundles on the DNS-321 to create a virtual partition formatted for Mac, in case the problem had to do with ext2. I don't know if this is a valid way to troubleshoot this aspect but it didn't work. I still got data verification errors when copying to the mounted virtual partition.

I've tried old versions of Chronosync, which is a rock solid program. But is the problem merely using it in conjunction with a network storage unit like the DNS-321 or I wonder if the problem is with the DNS-321 and that the data is not completely intact.

Thanks for any advice.

now I guess you are asking yourself if you would trust your data with this device. I hope you get it worked out before putting yourself into a position of relying on it.

the answer for me was "no" and I've done my own raid setup on my tv server. my 321
sits idle for now.

good luck!
