DIR-655 and Synology DS110j Setup Issues
« on: October 15, 2010, 03:33:05 PM »

Hey Everyone,

I am having some issues with setting up my Synology NAS with my DIR-655 router. I have forwarded all the ports I need on my NAS with the NAS itself having a static IP address. Even though I have done that, I can't access the services of the NAS from an external network (outside of home LAN) like I should. The only port I see open after I have forwarded all the ports is port 21 and that's it.

Are there any other settings that I have to change on my router that are conflicting with my setup?

I would greatly appreciate the help since this is the first time I have setup a NAS as well.

Try configuring the Virtual server ports instead of just forwarding them to the NAS.

If that does not work, you cany try setting the NAS as a DMZ host (not recommended) however, from my experience the 655 DMZ does not work!

Are you sure you forwarded all the ports needed?

From what I found you need to forward many ports.

Ok an Update on some things...

1) I figured out that the HTTP/HTTPS/FTP must be under virtual server page instead of port fowarding due to the nature of things..

2) The information on the Synology website..specifically portforward.com information has not worked for me. I have used this instead  http://www.synology.com/support/faq_show.php?q_id=299.

This is due to the fact that their new firmware (DSM) for their Synology products were updated and their applications have changed their default ports from what was posted on their wikipage FAQ and portforward.com.

I need to confirm if that is entirely true or its just some weird settings on my end..but for the most part..all the functions of my NAS are working properly so far.

I am just somewhat frustrated because there was a bit of a learning curve and information seems to be all over the place for Synology.
