Wi-Fi stopped working for Kindle
« on: December 24, 2011, 03:19:22 PM »

I originally bought the 615 router because my Net Talk telephone required it.  The first Wi-Fi device I used is my Kindle Touch.  I have been able to use the Wi-Fi several times since I received the Kindle, but there have now been two failures to connect.  The first time I just unplugged the router power and connections, restarted the modem, and rebooted my computer.  The Wi-Fi then worked.  Now I am experiencing a failure to connect again.

I have noticed that when I restart my computer I have to connect to the internet directly by pulling the cable from the router and putting it from the modem to the computer.  This seems to “teach” the router what it is supposed to do, because when I reconnect the modem to the router the internet starts to work immediately.

I have tried changing the password to wireless internet, but my Kindle still will no longer connect.  The router is about two years old.

I am not very familiar with networking and routers.  Thanks in advance to all who help.

I have AT&T modem with DSL.

Below is the message I received on this forum.  I have complied with these suggestions:
You need to open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1 log in as Admin and PW is blank.
Go to Setup/Wireless/Manual

You need to change the wireless SSID to something you like and identify in a list. You can make it fun.
Then change the Mode from Mixed All to Mixed G and N.
Change the wireless security settings to WPA-Personal then use WPA2 setting and change the Cipher type to Auto TPIK and AES.
At the bottom put in any password that you can remember, right it down if you need to.
Save the settings at the top. The changes will apply.

No go to the devices and check to see if you see the new SSID name you gave in the router. I should be listed there. Select it and it should ask you for a password, enter the password you gave in the router.

The only problem is that my modem does not exactly say "mixed G and N".  There are some numbers there.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
